About the Galois Grid 2.0 SBIR

7 February 2010

The Grid 2.0 SBIR is a DOE funded project1 that aims to bring the collaborative environment pioneered on the Web to the grid computing community. During Phase I of the project, Galois did a pilot integration of an RSS aggregator on top of the iRODS data grid system. The conclusion of Phase I was that the primary barrier to bringing collaboration tools to scientists using grid computing is the identity system. During the course of Phase II, we are working with the Open Science Grid (OSG) community to design innovative improvements to the OSG identity management system that facilitate collaboration and work to get them implemented. Work on Phase II started in August 2010, and concludes in August, 2012.

This Web site documents the analysis that we have done so far.

Improved collaboration through identity management and account linking

15 March 2012

Galois' Account Linking Service (ALS) enables grid scientists to collaborate across organizational boundaries by linking multiple user identities together. It lets users access restricted data with any of the linked identities. This makes it easier to develop web-based collaboration tools since web applications can accept user credentials without being tightly coupled to any particular identity system.

Account Linking for the Grid (demonstration)

31 August 2011

Revised demonstration slides for our account linking prototype.

Account Linking for the Grid (demonstration)

29 July 2011

Slides from a demonstration of our account linking prototype. The demonstration covers how to protect web resources using a combination of our account linking service prototype and the Central Authentication Service (CAS).

Account Linking for the Grid (Technical Advisory Group presentation)

7 March 2011

Revised slides about our proposed account linking solution for bridging identity systems in use by grid VOs. Includes an architectural walkthrough as back-up slides. This presentation is a good place to start to understand our proposed solution.

Account Linking for the Grid (Technical Advisory Group presentation)

2 February 2011

Slides about our proposed account linking solution for bridging identity systems in use by grid VOs. Proposes integration with VOMS and Shibboleth.

Solution Ideas

8 December 2010

Write-up of two different solution approaches that address different problems from the needs and problems analysis.

OSG Identity System Needs and Problems

1 November 2010

Outline of identity-system related needs and problems that Galois discovered as part of the process of requirements gathering.
